Without the confusion of extra technology, you can clearly show the effect of magnetic induction to your pupils.
The magnet dropped through the copper tube falls more slowly than when outside the tube and when compared to the non-magnetic slug demonstrating the creation of eddy currents in the tube.
More advanced pupils can study the demonstration in more detail and observe Fleming's right-hand rule in practice and apply the principle of conservation of energy to the system.
Suitable from Key Stage 3 to university levels of education.
